German writer Dirk Segbers presents the book ‘Our Athletic Around the World’.
Real Sociedad asked the RFEF to modify this date, set by the sole judge of non-professional competitions of the RFEF due to weather problems, in order to avoid playing during the international break, period during which they could not count out of 14 players. “Of these 25, a total of 11 have been called up to represent their national teams, which would leave 14 first-team players available. Furthermore, we cannot assess the possible existence of injured players, there is no information available. having been provided by the club on this subject in its appeal, reason for which this Committee can only conclude that no fully available player would be absent due to injury”, indicates the federal resolution.
To mitigate the risk of Real Sociedad breaching regulatory requirements, the RFEF is encouraging them to include their international players and specifically highlighting several of them. “A total of six players will participate with their national teams on November 18, thus allowing a window of approximately 72 hours which respects the necessary rest”, underlines the verdict, noting “sufficient time to return from international commitments and, in principle, also in good physical condition.” “In modern professional football, the practice of playing matches every few days is neither new nor strange for those who regularly participate in several competitions, both at national and European level,” suggests the National Committee of Second Instance, offering perspective on the busy sporting calendar, which is “an undesirable situation, but a result of the structure of professional competitions and the recurring nature of these circumstances.”

The National Committee of Second Instance devotes several paragraphs to responding to Real Sociedad, downplaying the “not unfounded certainty” that Athletic will have an advantage entering the derby, in light of the “distortion of the competition” that criticizes la Real: “Any sporting competition generates situations where teams can find themselves temporarily disadvantaged compared to their rivals, due to the distinct characteristics of their squads or their simultaneous participation in several competitions.”
