A tense new chapter is being written in the eventful history of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, after the deployment of an update that changed many things.
Grove Street Games, the studio behind the development of this remastered collection, appears to have distanced himself from Rockstar Games following a recent update that erased his name from the game’s home screens.
The update in question, rolling out this week, brings significant improvements to the collection, including a new “Classic Lighting Mode” that restores the visual atmosphere of the original games. But it was a less technical detail that attracted attention: the disappearance of the Grove Street Games name from the startup screens.

Grove Street Games takes on Rockstar
Thomas Williamson, CEO of Grove Street Games, reacted in a thinly veiled way on X (formerly Twitter). In a message that he describes as “ hypothetical “, he denounces a ” low blow » consisting of withdrawing developer credits. Even more revealing, he claims that his studio had made “ hundreds of fixes » which would have been retained by Rockstar for years.
The situation is all the more intriguing since the Video Games Deluxe studio, known for its work on LA Noire, now appears in the credits of this update. Grove Street Games remains mentioned in the game’s full credits, but its removal from the home screens appears to be a deliberate message on Rockstar’s part. Grove Street Games no longer follows Rockstar on social networks.
This tension echoes the difficulties encountered during the catastrophic launch of the collection in 2021. At the time, the trilogy was heavily criticized for its numerous bugs and technical problems, leading to pointing the finger at Grove Street Gamesalready known for controversial mobile ports.
While Rockstar Games maintains silence on this situation, everything suggests that the collaboration between the two studios could be permanently compromised. This news comes as Rockstar is still focused on the development of GTA 6, which is scheduled for release in fall 2025.
