A three-unit residential building was engulfed in flames after a fire which broke out during the night from Thursday to Friday in the Saint-Sauveur district of Quebec.

The Quebec Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ) was alerted around 11:30 p.m. for a fire starting at the rear of a building on rue de Montmartre, near rue Bigaouette.

The fire, which broke out in the drum on the 2nd floor, quickly spread to the 3rd floor, threatening the roof of the building.

A third alarm was necessary to mobilize more personnel among the firefighters who were more than fifty on site fighting the flames.

Several residents were evacuated, including those from adjacent buildings, while the Red Cross was called to the scene to take care of the victims.

RTC buses were mobilized for all purposes, according to the SPCIQ, which specifies that no one among the residents or firefighters was injured during the fire.

To facilitate the intervention of the fire department, Hydro-Québec had to intervene to cut off electricity in the area.

“The Fire Commissioner is on site to determine the most probable cause and origin of the fire,” mentioned the SPCIQ.
