Elite French Championships: a last day without Auvergnats in the A final

The last day of the French swimming championships, this Friday in Chartres, ended with two B finals and a C final for Auvergne swimmers. None managed to reach the A final.

The last day of the French elite swimming championships did not really smile on the Auvergne people. There were seven competing this Friday in the Chartres Odyssey pools, with a record of two B finals and one C final.

It was Lilou Alzaix who signed the best Auvergne performance of the day, with a 5th place in the B final of the 200m medley (2’21”42). The swimmer from Stade Clermontois improved her time achieved in the heats by eight tenths (2’22”19) earlier in the day.

French Championships: a beautiful but vain comeback for Clermont swimmer Geoffroy Mathieu in the 200m backstroke final

Also entered in the B final of the 200m medley, Lucas Barry ranked 8th with a time of 2’08”86. The swimmer from ASM Chamalières achieved the 15th time in the series in 2’05”72.

Finally, the last Auvergne finalist of the day, Mathis Khadraoui finished 6th in the C final of the 200m medley in 2’08”34, a time below that achieved in the heats this morning. (2’07”59).

Podevin and Mathieu as leaders on these “France”

From these French championships, we will particularly remember the great performance of Anaïs Podevin. The swimmer from Stade Clermontois came very close to scoring a podium in the 200m backstroke. Fourth, improving her personal best by more than two seconds (2’12”36), the former French champion in the discipline saw the bronze medal escape her by only two tenths.

Another swimmer from Stade Clermontois and another former French champion, Geoffroy Mathieu was the Auvergne face of these “France” men. Yet author of a good comeback in the A final of the 200m backstroke, the Clermontois failed two seconds from the podium, being unable to do better than 5th place (1’59”11).
