The firefighters were called at 2:23 p.m., Friday June 21, for a fire in the premises of the Offset 5 Edition printing company, in Achards (Vendée). The fire, which broke out in an administrative unit, including offices, was quickly brought under control and there were no injuries.

80 m² of offices gone up in smoke

“The early action of the firefighters made it possible to quickly stop the spread of the flames, assures Commander Matthias Vittu, column leader, who directed the operations. The damage is material: “Between 30 and 40 m² burned on the ground floor and the same thing upstairs. »

In total, nearly 80 m² of offices went up in smoke within this 400 m² building. The risks of propagation to the production unit could thus be limited.

After putting out the fire around 4 p.m., the firefighters moved on to the clearing, clearing and reconnaissance phase, particularly upstairs.

Around twenty employees evacuated

At the time of the disaster, there was no one in the administrative unit affected by the flames. But for safety reasons, around twenty employees working in the other buildings on the site were evacuated. As production could not resume that day, they were asked to return home.

“On Friday, some of the employees did not work and were therefore not present,” explains Yannick Leblanc, the production director on site. “We are going to reorganize ourselves internally, there will be no technical unemployment. We are going to change the organization of the teams. » Around a hundred people usually work on site.

According to the gendarmerie, the origin of the fire was accidental. An investigation is being carried out by the Sables-d’Olonne company.
