Michael Schär takes charge of the Swiss Elite and U23 teams

Swiss has officially appointed 38-year-old Michael Schär as national coach of the Elite and U23 categories for 2025. Succeeding Michael Albasini, Schär will begin his new role in January, while continuing his role as sporting director at the Lidl team -Trek.

Schär, a former professional rider with an 18-year career and impressive high-level experience (11 participations in the Tour de , 8 in the Worlds), was the ideal candidate according to sports chief Patrick Müller. “ Michael knows our system and our athletes well. His dual function is an asset for our national teams, as he is in direct contact with the riders throughout the year«, souligne Müller.

Before taking up his new role, Schär has already started working with Swiss Cycling by assisting Albasini at the World Championships in Zurich at the end of September. For his part, Michael Albasini will continue his career as sports director of the Swiss ProTeam Q36.5.

« I am very excited to take on this challenge,” says Schär. “My goal is to pass on my passion and experience to young people, while developing team spirit and aiming for exceptional performances. »

This appointment marks a turning point for the Swiss national teams, with the ambition to bring more success to the Elite and U23 categories next year.
