FOOTBALL – A nightmarish evening. The former Italian Ballon d’Or, Roberto Baggio, was robbed in his villa on the night of Thursday June 20 to Friday June 21 in the north-east of Italy. The athlete, slightly injured in the forehead, had to go to the hospital to have stitches put in, reports the peninsula’s media.

The burglary occurred around 10 p.m., while Roberto Baggio was watching the Italy-Spain Euro 2024 match with his family when five armed criminals entered his villa located near Vicenza. The ex-footballer tried to stop them but one of them hit him on the forehead with the butt of a gun.

The former sportsman and his family were then locked in a room while the burglars searched the villa for money and jewelry. This burglary lasted nearly 40 minutes according to the Corriere della Sera and when Roberto Baggio realized that the burglars had left, he broke a door and quickly contacted the police.

Apart from the injury to the forehead of Roberto Baggio, aged 57, his wife, Andreina and his three children Valentina, Mattia and Leonardo were not affected and were more scared than hurt.

The former sportsman, striker and Ballon d’Or winner in 1993, played in the biggest Italian clubs, Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan. With the national team he reached the final of the 1994 World Cup, won by Brazil after penalties.
