The Toulouse rugby players crushed the Girondins this Friday, July 28 in Marseille (59-3) in the Top 14 final. Who shone? Who messed up? La Dépêche du Midi takes out the notebook.
Stade Toulousain notes
Thomas RAMOS (7.5/10). The serenity, the confidence, the international full-back produced an impeccable copy even if he missed a few kicks which is unusual. Effective in his withdrawals, his coverage reassures all his teammates. Author of two additional essays (65th and 75th).
Juan Cruz MALLIA (6.5/10). He was very vigilant on his wing, like his tackle on Depoortere (16th) to bring him into touch. We find him supporting Mauvaka for the second Toulouse test to prevent him from being brought into touch. Penalized for a ball kept on the ground (38th). Replaced by CAPUOZZO to the 69th author of a last monumental essay!
Santiago CHOCOBARES (7/10). He loves finals and his aggression is increased tenfold. He showed himself to be merciless from the start, as illustrated by the pressure on Jalibert, who he pushed back 5m (10th). He came to harass the Bordeaux attackers, preventing them from playing their game calmly, and also showed himself to be a formidable tackler to stop Bordeaux’s initiatives.
Replaced by Ahki in the 77th.

Pita AHKI (6.5/10). The other strong man in the Toulouse midfield. Always very vigilant, he did not get caught in his zone. Launched by an excellent kick from Dupont, the Tongan dropped the ball in front of the in-goal area under pressure from Depoortere (54th). Too bad.
Replaced by COSTES in the 66th.
Blair KINGHORN (6,5/10). Not much to get his teeth into in the first half for the Scot until this interception by Vergé then a long pass from Costes for a lucky try (70th).
Romain NTAMACK (7/10). With the Dupont machine in front of him, the Toulouse opener was rather prominent in the defensive sector, author of good offensive climbs. And when the point needs to be driven home, he knows how to be terribly effective with his footwork, like his perfectly measured pass for Ramos’ try (65th).

Antoine DUPONT (8,5/10). The phenomenal “Super Dupont” struck very quickly in the Vélodrome. An entry try (6th) after multiplying passes in the Toulouse advance. It was he who concluded with force in the middle of four Bordeaux defenders. And then he doubled the lead with one of his accelerations of which he has the secret, followed by a little kicking game for him which hit the target (23rd). He stunned the Bordeaux team. His initiatives put the Stade in the advance. To his credit? A blocked ball then a bad kicking game (28th). Nonsense… (read also on page 9).
Replaced by GRAOU in the 71st.
Alexandre ROUMAT (7/10). Excellent in the line-up to hinder the Bordelais, he played his role as a transmission belt between the forwards and the three-quarters so that the game could continue.
Replaced by VERGE in the 66th.
Jack WILLIS (9/10). We found the real, terrible Willis last night. Sharp and bloody from the start, it was offered everywhere. After his failed semi-final, the English flanker made every good move, repeatedly piercing the opponent’s curtain. And then in the rucks, he scratched balls (22nd, 35th) without being penalized this time. A full match. A huge match! Great, very great Willis. Replaced by MAUVAKA at the 77th.

François CROS (7/10). He struggled from the start, reflecting the pressure he put on Poirot who lost the ball (2nd). The challenge, the upwind combat, the pressing, he is there where he is needed, when he is needed. Like always.
Thibaud FLAMENT (6.5/10). Present on referrals, in the alignment and defensive tasks, he is always available in the game when necessary.
Richie ARNOLD (6,5/10). His 2m08 are valuable for ensuring throws on the first block. The Australian international was also effective in supporting his teammates by bringing his physical impact. Replaced by BRENNAN in the 61st.
Dorian ALDEGHERI (6/10). Few scrums to get his teeth into for the Toulouse right-hander. So he focused on the area around the rucks and mauls to bring his power.
Replaced by MERKLER in the 55th.
Peato MAVAKA (7,5/10). Beautiful, good, great Mauvaka. The hooker enjoyed this final where his activity did wonders. He steals a ball at the back of the lineout on an opponent’s throw (6th) which will lead to Dupont’s first try. His scrum half will return the favor in the 20th minute by throwing him on the right side for the Stadion hooker’s try. Then we find him again as the decisive passer for Dupont’s second try (23rd) with chistera please! Replaced by MARCHAND at the 54th.

Rodrigue NETI (7/10). For his first final as a starter, he lived up to the occasion. We liked his activity illustrated by his initiative which will begin the third Toulouse test, with a good transmission towards Mallia (23rd). He always sought to energize the Toulouse balls passing through his zone. Replaced by AINU’U at the 55th.
Bordeaux-Bègles notes
Romain BUROS (4/10). It’s difficult to show off your qualities when your team only has a few balls to get their hands on. Only one good restart can be put to his credit, at the very start of the second half (41st). He can’t do anything about Peatro Mauvaka’s (20th) try.
Damian PENAUD (3/10). Few ammunitions to his credit, and therefore a presence close to nothing. His offensive silence is only an illustration of the outrageous superiority of the Stade. He is totally amused by Ange Capuozzo at the end of regulation time (80 + 1).

Nicolas DEPOORTERE (4/10). In a team in dire straits, the center was content to plug the gaps, even sliding onto the right wing to block Capuozzo when the UBB had given up (74th).
Yoram MOEFANA (4/10). The holes had to be plugged. No obvious mistakes to report, no positive things either. The lot of a center always going backwards.
Louis BIELLE-BIARREY (5/10). One of the few to stay afloat. He tried to take advantage of his liveliness, without generating enough concern in the opposing camp. Replaced by Pablo UBERTI (50), who immediately makes a mistake by stupidly touching his foot in his 22 meters (51).
Matthieu JALIBERT (2/10). The flyhalf took no risks, content to pass the dishes. Passes always backwards, little speed, and use of the foot that is never appropriate. One of which resulted in Antoine Dupont’s attempt (5). Already not being a great defender, his physical uncertainty didn’t help. Replaced by Paul ABADIE (54)

Maximum LUCU (2/10). He was supposed to be the leader of this Girondins team. But he failed. Lucu did not have any influence on the match. Between questionable choices, haste – penalty played by hand to give the ball back to Toulouse (38) –, the number 9 did not show his serenity in the management of his team’s game. Replaced at the opening after Jalibert came off (54), he did not catch up, missing a penalty touch (56), and being intercepted by Vergé on Toulouse’s sixth try (69).
Avoid TATAFU (2/10). Really not meeting him. He first received a yellow card very early for a high tackle (7), he only saw fire in the Haut-Garonnais’ post-touch combination (24), then was greedy at the start of his period, forgetting Lucu on his exterior (46).
Mahamadou DIABY (3/10). Very messy match from the UBB third row. If we can’t take anything away from his involvement in defense, he often got lost in it, and lacked lucidity on the few balls he had to play (41). Replaced by Pierre BOCHATON (47), which did not make any waves.

Bastien VERGNES-TAILLEFER (5/10). Quite clean but the 27-year-old player did not allow his team to turn the tide in the fight. He countered Antoine Dupont, without this being improved by his teammates (16). The entry of Peter Samu was not easy, the match already being over (59).
Adam COLEMAN (3/10). We didn’t really see him last night at the Vélodrome. Some support, balls, assured but no contribution when it came to turning the table. Replaced by Cyril CAZEAUX (66).
Cyril CAZEAUX (3/10). A good start to the meeting then activity at half mast. The second line slowly faded after the first try of the “red and black”, and was even the starting point of Mauvaka’s try, causing the foul which offered the victorious penalty for the hooker (19). Kane Douglas returned to his place, without managing to do anything in an outdated formation (55th).
Well TAMEIFUNA (2/10). Big Ben didn’t really ring last night. While his scrum performance was impeccable, he did penalize his team more during the dynamic phases. A forward pass, and especially a lack of cleanliness in his interventions in the rucks. A sector in which he was sanctioned twice, offering three points to the Stadistes (43). Remplace par TOMAAKINO TAUFUA (47).

Maxime LAMOTHE (3/10). Alert from the start by jumping on a ball snatched by Poirot (1), the hooker was active in the running game without allowing UBB to win the ground battle. Above all, the uncertainty of his throws weighed heavily, and almost cost a try before half-time, rightly refused to Peato Mauvaka (40 + 1). Replaced by Clément MAYNADIER (59), whose last match of his career was heavy.
Jefferson POIROT (3/10). By snatching the ball from the kick-off, Jefferson Poirot had set an example. But like all of his teammates, he found himself drowned by the Stade’s domination, costing his team three points for an avoidable offside (13). Replaced by Ugo BONIFACE (47), who made two mistakes (48, 55).
