Additional information: The Regional Health Agency wants its first generation of non-smoking adults in 2032
The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Health Agency (ARS) today has a clearly stated objective: to achieve the first generation without tobacco by 2032. Concretely, this means that children born in 2014 and after should become the first generation of non-smoking adults. That is to say, in statistical data, less than 5% of them will be cigarette smokers at 17 years old.
This is possible given the evolution of consumption curves. But this obviously requires continued efforts in prevention. The ARS must therefore already by 2027 manage to reduce the prevalence of daily smokers to 20% among adults and to 10% among young people aged 17.
