Warning of the risk of heavy rain and flooding this Friday June 21, 2024 in several departments of the country. In today’s bulletin, Météo France places 10 departments in France on orange “rain-flood” vigilance and 20 others in yellow, including three departments in the Ile-de-France region. We take stock of the weather forecast for the next few hours.
Another day scrutinized by meteorologists this Friday, June 21, 2024. Due to the passage of a new disturbance, Meteo France alert on a new risk of heavy rain and flooding in several departments of France, located mainly in the center of the country, but also on the Alps side. “Non-exceptional rainy event near the Alps, but could have consequences particularly in terms of river overflows due to already saturated soils and snowmelt“, indicates Météo France in its bulletin of the day.
Also, Meteo France place this Friday June 21 10 departments on orange alert and 20 others on yellow due to a risk heavy rain and flooding. The most scrutinized departments are Mayenne and Maine-et-Loire (also on red “flood” alert), but also Sarthe, Loir-et-Cher, Loiret, Indre-et-Loire, Eure-et-Loir, Savoie, Isère and Hautes-Alpes.
In Ile-de-Francethree departments are placed in yellow alertnamely the YvelinesL’Essonne and the Seine et Marne. According to Météo France, these three Ile-de-France departments could be affected by this heavy rain and this risk of flooding during the night from Thursday to Friday, from 3 a.m. The phenomenon could continue until around 10 a.m.
“Friday late night and during the morning, stormy rains circulate from the southwest of the region towards the east, mainly affecting the south of Yvelines, Essonne and Seine-et-Marne“warns Météo France which specifies that”rainy activity is notable with high intensities and local accumulations“.”Uncertainty remains regarding the location and intensity of expected precipitation, as the region borders a more active area to the southwest” adds the meteorological service.
Furthermore, note that the whole of Île-de-France is once again placed in yellow vigilance “thunderstorms“ for this day of June 21. According to Meteo Francethese storms could hit the different Ile-de-France departments this Friday between 3 a.m. and 10 a.m., then between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Residents and visitors to the region are advised to remain vigilant, follow Météo France updates and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from these severe weather conditions. Furthermore, due to these unfavorable weather conditions, several municipalities have decided to cancel the festivities of the Music Festival, like the town of Nanteuil-lès-Meaux, in Seine-et-Marne. It remains to be seen whether other municipalities plan to do the same and in turn cancel the concerts planned for the occasion.
Since then, Meteo France remind them good reflexes to have in case of heavy rain or flash flooding:
- Postpone all trips on foot or by car;
- Leave your children safe at school;
- Take refuge upstairs;
- Cut off, if possible, and without putting yourself in danger, the electricity, gas and heating networks.
