This Thursday, June 20 marks an important turning point in Carrefour’s strategy in France. The first Atacadão store opened in Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis). This Brazilian brand, a subsidiary of the French group, specializes in wholesale self-service with very attractive prices.

Atacadão opened its first store in France this Thursday, June 20, in Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis). This Brazilian discount brand, a subsidiary of the Carrefour group, specializes in the concept of “cash&carry”, wholesale self-service.

But unlike other brands in the sector, like Metro for example, Atacadão is not reserved for professionals. Individuals also have access to stores and can benefit from attractive prices, particularly when purchasing large quantities.

Prices lower than traditional supermarkets

These stores, which take the form of large warehouses with wide aisles, offer fewer items than a traditional supermarket but display prices 10% lower, according to the Brazilian company. And prices decrease when the quantity purchased increases.

This first French store will be set up in the O’Parinor shopping center, replacing a Carrefour supermarket which was in difficulty. It will extend over approximately 10,000 m². The concept has proven itself in Brazil with 366 stores but also in Morocco and has been adapted to convince French customers with, for example, an emphasis on fresh or organic products.
