A new letter expressing death threats was discovered this Tuesday, November 12 in a class at the Jean-Monnet high school in Libourne, specifically targeting a teacher. The latter was already threatened in extremely violent terms in December 2023, then again in a long text discovered in September of this year. This new letter, this time discovered under the door of his classroom, during the lunch break, is “unequivocal”. A complaint was filed, confirms the Libourne public prosecutor's office, and the investigation entrusted to the gendarmerie research brigade. The teaching community must meet Thursday, November 14 to decide on possible action.
The targeted teacher is particularly shocked. The very first letter, found in December, conveyed words as violent as they were nauseating. “We have to kill the Arabs in high school. I'm going to bleed them like my grandfather's pigs…” The latter is “more laconic”, testifies a colleague of the teacher, but attacks her directly. An investigation was already opened for “death threats against a person responsible for a public service mission, committed because of race, ethnicity, nation or religion”. “We are all very worried,” says one within the establishment. No one has been implicated for the previous letter. There is real tension within the school…”
“Anxious climate”
There is nothing to say, say the teachers, whether the three letters are the work of the same person. The investigation to identify the author(s) is therefore actively continuing. The mayor of Libourne Philippe Buisson, informed on Tuesday at the end of the day, strongly condemns these actions. “I immediately contacted the Dasen office [directeur académique des services de l’Éducation nationale, NDLR]. A mobile security device was set up Wednesday morning around the establishment. I met teachers who testified to the anxiety-provoking climate created by this incident in the establishment. We remain very attentive to developments in the situation. »
