Eating 2 slices of this food per day is enough to increase the risk of diabetes by 15%, according to this study

The development of diabetes is often associated with excessive consumption ofsweet foods. It is more precisely type 2 diabetes which is targeted in this case. And this association between sugar and this chronic disease is not really unfounded. Bad eating habits are indeed part of the risk factors.

However, eat too much sugar is not the only problem that can explain why a person develops diabetes. More generally, weight gain, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, age and family history are the most important factors. It is therefore not really surprising thata widely consumed food in is also on the list of risks associated with this disease.

This very popular food in France is associated with a higher risk of type 2 diabetes

Scientists have recently discovered that a very popular and appreciated food during meals or
appetizers is associated with a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. However, this is in no way a question ofa sweet ingredient. And unfortunately, most people eat it in France.

It is about the meat and, more specifically, charcuterie. These are, in any case, the conclusions of scientists from Cambridge Universitywho published their research in the journal

Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology last September, shortly before World Diabetes Day (which will take place on November 14). According to these researchers, it is all meat consumptionwhether red or not, which poses a public health problem.

Just two slices of this processed food can increase your risk of diabetes

It is not necessary to be a big meat consumer so that your risk of developing diabetes increases. According to researchers at the University of Cambridge, daily consumption of 50 grams of processed meat is enough to increase your risk by 15%. Concretely, 50 grams correspond to two slices of ham.

Eating 100 grams of red meat every day is also associated with an increase in risk of 10%. And if you think that eating poultry will protect you better, you are wrong. The study highlights that eating 100 grams per day increases your risk of type 2 diabetes by 8%.

Other studies have confirmed the link between this food and diabetes

This isn't quite the first time a link has been made between meat consumption and type 2 diabetes. Last year, a study published in the journal PLOS
Medicine
has already demonstrated this, by targeting more specifically
charcuterie. The problem essentially comes from nitriteswhich are present in large quantities in these foods.

However, the conclusions of this other study are even more alarming than that of the University of Cambridge. High consumers of nitrites see their risk of suffering from diabetes increase by 53%. Worse still, nitrites are also found in several foods of agricultural origin.
