On May 19, Wissam Ben Yedder played his last official match in the AS Monaco jersey. This came in a convincing 4-0 win over FC Nantes in Ligue 1, where he even opened the scoring for his side. Ben Yedder concluded the 2023-24 season with an impressive tally of 20 goals and 2 assists in 34 appearances in all competitions. This marked his last appearance in Monaco colors, while he was without a contract and the Principality club chose not to extend his stay. Indeed, the attacker is currently facing legal problems, being involved in several cases. Just yesterday he was found guilty of sexual assault under the influence of alcohol by the Nice court. He received a two-year suspended prison sentence, accompanied by an obligation to pay €6,500 to the victim and to undergo rehabilitation treatment. However, the former Toulouse FC player, who was not physically present during the verdict, decided to appeal, as confirmed by his two lawyers, Me Hasna Louzé and Me Marie Roumiantseva.

“Although he has the greatest respect for the judicial decisions of the French courts, he contests the legal classification of sexual assault as determined by the court,” they said in a statement sent to the newspaper. In addition to this case, Wissam Ben Yedder will also have to provide explanations to the authorities at the end of the year concerning allegations of psychological violence on the part of his wife in the context of divorce proceedings which have been initiated. He was also indicted a few months ago in connection with another case of sexual assault and rape dating back to 2023.

Ben Yedder, who admitted in October to having alcohol addiction problems, then followed a two-week detoxification program at Nice University Hospital, as reported by L’Équipe this Wednesday. Since October 20, he has undertaken a large physical rehabilitation program in a specialized center. The sports daily explains that he is still far from reaching his maximum capacities. He must continue his efforts until the end of 2024, with the ambition and objective of joining a club. Indeed, the 34-year-old player, now free from any contract, wishes to resume his career in the coming months.
