As you know, we are closely following developments in Matter, this standard intended to unify all home automation. This has been evolving regularly for two years, and this time it is the Matter 1.4 update which has just been revealed.

A growing ecosystem

Matter 1.4 opens its arms wide to newcomers in the family of connected objects. Solar panels, wall batteries, heat pumps, water heaters… The band is growing and it promises to be big!

But that’s not all. Thermostats become real little geniuses, capable of juggling between different predefined modes. Vacation, home/away, they adapt to your pace of life like a glove. And the cherry on the cake, they can even be triggered using motion sensors. Practical, right?

Energy, the sinews of war

Energy is the subject that annoys when you receive the bill. But with Matter 1.4, it could well become your best ally for saving money!

The protocol now makes it possible to monitor the consumption of each device in great detail, to help you optimize your consumption.

Imagine your home becoming a real energy conductor. She could decide to run the dishwasher when your solar panels produce enough, or to open the shutters to take advantage of the natural heat from the sun. Isn’t that beautiful?

Matter 1.4 not only makes it possible to monitor the electricity consumption of each device, but it also makes it possible to create automated routines which save energy and therefore reduce the bill for equipped households.

Simplicity, the key word of Matter 1.4

No more configuration headaches! Matter 1.4 introduces an improved multi-administrator which will save you a lot of time. Your new devices will automatically connect to all available systems in your home. Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, Apple Home… They will all be friends like pigs!

Even Wi-Fi set-top boxes and routers can now be Matter certified. This means an even smoother configuration of your networks and equipment. Child’s play, indeed!

Your electric car joins the dance

Yes, even your electric car is invited to the Matter 1.4 party! The protocol introduces advanced parameters for fine-grained charging management. You can set a target battery percentage or schedule charging at off-peak times. Enough to drive smart and economically!

Intelligence at the service of your comfort

Matter 1.4 is a bit like having an invisible butler who anticipates your needs. Thanks to edge computing (a barbaric term for saying that processing is done locally), your home will be able to make intelligent decisions without depending on an internet connection.

Imagine: you come home from work, tired as hell. Your home already has everything planned! The temperature is ideal, the light dimmed, and your favorite playlist starts smoothly. (We’re not far from paradise, right?)

The future is now (or almost)

Well, we still have to temper our enthusiasm. Matter 1.4 has just been released and it will take a little time before we see all these wonders arrive in our homes. Tech giants are not required to implement these new features immediately.

But let’s not shy away from our pleasure! Matter 1.4 lays the foundations for a future where our connected home will truly be… connected. A future where home automation will no longer be a gadget for geeks, but a real tool to improve our comfort and reduce our ecological footprint.

The adventure has only just begun, and we expect a lot from Matter!
