Dramatic accident on the A31: a driver burns to death

A dramatic traffic accident occurred during the night of Tuesday June 18 to Wednesday June 19, on the A31 motorway. Around 1 a.m., the driver of a truck traveling in the Nancy-Luxembourg direction, for reasons still undetermined, lost control of his vehicle at the Richemont crow’s foot, marking the separation of the A31 from the A30.

The heavy goods vehicle then hit the guardrail and then landed on the central wooded reservation, in the middle of the two carriageways. Following the impact, the entire road assembly burst into flames.

The unfortunate driver found himself trapped in his cabin, which had tilted forward. He burned to death. It is believed to be a 61-year-old man of Turkish nationality. The conditional is essential, because all the papers present in the vehicle were burned.

No third parties involved

Six fire engines were on site, but the firefighters could only note the death of the truck driver. Also on the scene, men from the Moulins-lès-Metz motorway CRS opened a procedure to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. Dozing off, feeling unwell?

One certainty: viewing the video surveillance confirms the absence of a third party involved.

Disturbances were still underway this Wednesday morning on this portion of the highway, causing significant slowdowns.
