A road accident killed seven people Tuesday evening in Bailleau-le-Pin near Chartres. According to the first elements of the investigation, a vehicle, in which there were five young people aged 17 to 19, would have overflowed into the other lane on a bend, colliding head-on with another car in the opposite direction.

The results are terrible. Seven people died in a road accident which occurred on Tuesday around 7 p.m. on a busy departmental road in Bailleau-le-Pin near Chartres. According to initial information, three vehicles were involved. In the first, five young people, aged 17 to 19, whose car allegedly overflowed into the other lane on a bend, hitting an oncoming vehicle head-on.

Inside, two octogenarians died instantly. The young people then entered a second car in which there was a couple in their twenties. One of the occupants of this vehicle was seriously injured. The first car then burst into flames and the five young people, trapped inside, died, burned alive.

“It’s indescribable”

Obviously, emotions are running high this Wednesday in Bailleau-le-Pin. The mayor, Martial Lochon, has tears in his eyes. “It’s indescribable. We can’t imagine that this would happen one day in your town. It’s hard, but I’m going to address the families above all. It’s terrible to lose an 18-year-old child. All these families are within a 15km radius of our home and I have a resident of Bailleau-le-Pin who is one of the victims.

An autopsy will now be carried out to find out if the drivers had consumed drugs or alcohol. The vehicles will also be examined to determine a possible technical problem. As of Tuesday evening, the Chartres public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into homicide and involuntary injuries.
