As part of the Equine Science and Innovation Days organized at the IFCE in Saumur at the end of May, the first prize for innovation was awarded to Safe HP soles.

The French company Safe HP offers soles for horses that are 100% flexible and without metal inserts. S for sole, A for adaptable, F for flexible and E for ethical. An innovation rewarded during the last science and innovation days in Saumur.

The objective of Safe HP insoles is to protect the foot while maintaining operation equivalent to a bare foot due to their flexibility. Made without any metal insert, they are completely flexible and allow the natural deformation of the horse’s foot to be followed according to its environment. Not only do they help preserve tendons and joints, by limiting shock waves, but their design also promotes better blood flow in the foot. Several studies have been carried out to demonstrate their effectiveness, particularly with thermography.

Two attachment methods are available for these polyurethane soles. They were originally pinned onto the hoof with nails. Now the soles are also available glued. The result of a collaboration with Philippe Baudet, renowned for his expertise in soles. The goal is to make bonding simple, efficient and quick. Their installation is carried out by your usual farrier.

Developed for the founders’ horses, these soles are now used on horses from Shetland to draft horses. They are suitable for all disciplines from CSO to TREC, from driving to endurance. In dressage, French team rider Alexandre Ayache has also adopted these soles for his horses.

Note that Saf HP also won the second prize for innovation at the Cheval Passion show in January.
