The tragedy which took place this Tuesday in Bailleau-le-Pin caused the death of five young people aged 17 to 19 and a couple aged 80 and 85. Two other people were also injured in the accident.

“It’s a road drama like you rarely see.” At the microphone of RMC this Wednesday morning, Frédéric Chevallier, the prosecutor of the Chartres court, returned to the terrible accident which occurred Tuesday at 7 p.m., in Bailleau-le-Pin (Eure-et-Loir) and which leaves 7 dead.

The prosecution has opened an investigation into homicide and involuntary injuries, the prosecutor detailed this Wednesday.

A vehicle traveling at high speed

“The most likely hypothesis is that the car in which there were five occupants was probably driving too fast and coming out of the bend, it crossed into the traffic lane opposite”confides Frédéric Chevallier, his voice marked by emotion.

Among the five occupants, there were two young girls aged 17 and three boys aged 18 and 19, detailed the prosecutor who does not know, at this stage, who was driving the car. Especially since, according to investigators, the rear passengers had not worn their seat belts.

When leaving the lane, the car ended up colliding head-on with a vehicle “who drove quietly”, continued Frédéric Chevallier. The two occupants, a couple in their eighties, died instantly.

In its course, the car in which the five young people were traveling also collided with a second vehicle with two people on board. One is injured “seriously”specifies the prosecutor who emphasizes that the victim is not in an absolute emergency but is still hospitalized.

Finally, the vehicle caught fire after rolling over several times. The five friends perished in the flames and were unable to escape from the car, Frédéric Chevallier reported this Wednesday.

“Today is annihilation”

The victims, all from Chartres, leave behind seven bereaved families. Still speaking to our colleagues, the mayor of the small town of Eure-et-Loir was upset. “It’s horribletestified Martial Lochon, elected head of the village for 23 years. We are not mayors to manage these events. We are humble, helpless, devastated. We had to manage families, it’s complicated… We try to make sure we make our contribution”he reacts.

“I have an 18-year-old from my town who diedexplained the mayor of Bailleau-le-Pin. We just saw the parents. I knew them by sight, not personally. They were discreet people who lived in the heart of the village. They only had one child. Today is annihilation.”
