“There is no security”: the moving testimony of Socayna’s mother, victim of a stray bullet

A moving story. The mother of Socayna, a 24-year-old girl who died in September after being hit by a stray bullet in a city in Marseille, testified Tuesday on the BFMTV set in front of candidates for the early legislative elections. “She was everything to us,” said this woman, Layla, referring to a young girl who was “lively, full of joy”, and who was “very cultured”.

With great emotion, she retraced what happened on September 10, before her daughter was hit by a stray bullet. She said she heard gunshots, which she initially thought were firecrackers. One of her daughters then went to Socayna’s room, where she discovered her sister’s body. “I heard screams. I went to look and found my daughter in a pool of blood,” she said, sobbing. In a state of brain death, the young woman died two days later.

“Is France at war? »

“What did we do, what did the poor thing do?” “, continued the mother. “I didn’t understand anything about what happened. She left too soon, she left me all alone,” she added, facing the three candidates – Aurore Bergé (Renaissance), Jean-Philippe Tanguy (RN), and Fabien Roussel (PCF).

Asked if she wanted to ask the candidates questions on the subject of security, Layla felt that “there is no security”. “Minors who find themselves in the neighborhoods with Kalashnikovs, shooting left and right, I don’t understand,” she was moved, while a minor, aged 15 at the time of the events, was indicted in February for “assassination” in this case. “Is France at war? But if there is a war, who is it against whom? We are citizens, we have done nothing! “, she concluded.
