LTrainer Bart De Wever intends to first focus on “seeking a stable majority”, he indicated on Friday afternoon in a rare reaction.
At the end of his audience at the Palace, the King decided “to grant him two weeks to resolve the impasse”.
“His Majesty the King has extended my mandate as trainer by two weeks, with the mission of breaking the current impasse concerning federal training,” confirms the president of the N-VA to Belga.
“My intention is to bring together a coalition of parties as quickly as possible to begin the final phase of negotiations with a view to concluding a government agreement. The first step will be to seek a stable majority. »
“Given the particularly serious situation of our budget, we have no time to lose,” he adds. “A proposed method will therefore follow quickly, on the basis of which parties of good will should be able to commit to joining the negotiating table. I will carry out this task discreetly in the coming period, as I have always done in recent months. I hope to be able to count on the same discretion from my fellow negotiators. »
Bart De Wever presented his resignation to the King last week, but Philippe kept his decision pending, giving the president of the N-VA an extra week.
Discussions have stalled since the withdrawal of the Flemish socialists from Vooruit, who are demanding a new socio-economic note. This Tuesday, the discussions still did not seem ripe for a resumption of negotiations, neither with Vooruit, nor with the Flemish liberals of Open Vld, recalled by the trainer last week.
The King therefore decided to give two additional weeks to resolve this question.
