Nintendo just announced the next Zelda game and it’s not at all what you’d imagine

On the occasion of the last Nintendo Direct on June 18, BigN surprisingly announced a new Zelda game, namely The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. And for once, this title intends to shake up the fundamentals of the saga in many aspects, starting with its playable character.

As you probably know, Nintendo met fans around the world this Tuesday, June 18, 2024 for a new Nintendo Direct conference. In a little over an hour, the Japanese publisher presented a lot of promising new releases coming to Switch, such as Mario & Luigi: The Brotherly Epic, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD or even Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (we don’t wasn’t expecting this one anymore).

But what we will especially remember from this Nintendo Direct is the surprise announcement of a new Zelda game, namely The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Be careful, don’t expect a direct sequel to Tears of The Kingdom, this opus is more in line with the remake of Link’s Awakening released in 2019.

We will therefore find this view from above characteristic of the first episodes of the license, with these graphics Cute cartoon style. But where Link’s Awakening presented itself as a reworking of an existing opus, Echoes of Wisdom is an original creation, on many aspects indeed.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom – Released September 26 (Nintendo Switch)

The Legend of Zelda… without Link!

First of all, and this is a big surprise,Players will not play as our favorite hero Link, but as Princess Zelda! With this new playable character, Nintendo aims to modify its formula. Zelda is not a warrior unlike her protector, she will not use a sword or shield to defend herself against the threats that inhabit Hyrule.

To do this, it will call on a magic staff with multiple abilities. As shown in the first trailer, we can use this stick to reproduce objects encountered in the adventure, like a table to climb a wall that is a little too high for example. But where it gets interesting is that Zelda will also be able to clone defeated enemies to serve as his personal royal bodyguards. Obviously, each monster will have its own abilities and skills. In this way, the player will be able to adapt to each situation.

For those who are more impatient, know that The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will be released on Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite (a limited edition is also planned) and Switch OLED this September 26, 2024.
