The Brest association Des Requins et des Hommes studies porbeagle sharks, off the coast of Perros-Guirec (Côtes-d’Armor). Of the 134 individuals recorded by biologists, all are females. Could the Pink Granite Coast be a nursery for this endangered species that is harmless to humans? This is one of the avenues put forward by specialists, who are continuing their observations.

It is one of the rare places where it is possible to observe porbeagle sharks so closely: the Pink Granite Coast, and more precisely the coastline around Ploumanac’h and Perros-Guirec (Côtes-d’ Armor), appears to be an important location for the species. Why this area in particular? “It is precisely to answer this question that we carry out our research,” smile Armelle Jung and Paul Abaut. The two biologists from the association Des Requins et des Hommes, based in Brest (Finistère), have been working for several years on this species of shark which is harmless to humans and has long been threatened by overfishing.
