The history of the Bexley brand
It was in 1985 that the Bexley brand was created in Lyon. Objective declared by its creator Eric Botton : “allow men to wear elegant shoes, for a reasonable budget. » Because yes, basically, Bexley only sold shoes.
The name of the brand inevitably evokes the style “ so British“, English elegance, even luxury (Bexley / Bentley, you know the type?). This atmosphere can also be found in the brand’s boutiques, where wood is omnipresent, as well as in the collections, with the omnipresence of leather and models called Dover, Paddington, Mayfair…
With success, Bexley continued to grow, with new stores in Lyon and the Rhône-Alpes region. The end of the 2000s, however, marked a turning point. To refresh an aging and even somewhat dull image, Bexley decided to expand its collections: in addition to traditional shoes and underwear, chinos and polo shirts are gradually joining the Bexley wardrobe.
A new important milestone was reached in 2017 with the purchase of the brand by the LBO France investment fund. If some feared that Bexley would lose its independence or its identity, the transition seems to have taken place smoothly. Today more than ever, the company is a major player in the men’s fashion market… both for its clothes and its shoes!
Our opinion on Bexley
Long compared to Loding or Finsbury, Bexley has slightly managed to distance itself from them. Its more extensive wardrobe is obviously no stranger to this, especially as this has been accompanied, over the years, by an increased quality of clothing. Many fans of casual style will find something to suit them!
So yes, we may regret that a “historic” French brand like Bexley did not go “made in France” : the shoes are mainly made in Portugal (but with leather from the tanneries of Annonay and Puy, in France!), the clothes… a little further away!
However, Bexley assures that his shoes are “the work of highly qualified craftsmen, having required up to 180 manual operations”.
Finally, Bexley’s big strong point is obviously the quality-price ratio, notably thanks to the lot pricing policy.. So, when the first product is paid “at the right price”, the following ones allow you to benefit from more advantageous prices. An example ? Ringwood shoes, a great classic of the brand, are priced at €159 per pair; the second pair of your choice will then be available from €129.

The best pieces from Bexley
Shoes, as we have said, constitute Bexley’s core business: boots, moccasins, sneakers, they come in multiple shapes, but always in a refined “English” style! A model like the Hilcott brogue is a sure value for men looking for a polished lookbut you shouldn’t hesitate to discover the brand’s “relaxation shoes”, where you can find truly beautiful sneakers (and increasingly “daring” offerings like the Kolora!).
And to take care of your shoes on a daily basis, the brand is banking on another flagship product: red cedar shoe trees, of which it sells no less than 100,000 pairs each year. Where to buy Bexley clothing and shoes?
The first store was opened in Lyon in 1985 and it took 5 years to see the first Bexley store open its doors in Paris.
The arrival of LBO France in 2017 made it possible to accelerate the pace of openings (objective of 3 to 5 stores per year). In 2024, there will be 36 Bexley stores in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and now in Spain, without forgetting an authorized reseller in Abidjan, Ivory Coast!
