A fire broke out for the second time in almost two years in a residential building in the District of North Vancouver on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters say they intervened around 1:30 p.m. to put out the blaze that broke out on the 18th floor of the building located at 1959 Marine Drive.

According to North Vancouver District Fire Deputy Chris Byrom, it was a notable fire which required significant resources.

Eight fire trucks responded, including crews from West Vancouver and the City of North Vancouver.

Some residents were restrained in their apartments and others required medical assistance on the stairs. Two people were treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation, Chris Byrom said.

In December 2022, two people were injured and 26 residents had to leave their apartments due to a fire in the same building.

According to Chris Byrom, the origin of Monday’s fire has not yet been determined, but it is not linked to the one that broke out two years ago.

For the moment, firefighters do not know how many apartments have been damaged and how many people cannot return home.
