Niger oil: bad news for Tiani and his…

This is inevitably bad news for Abdourahamane Tiani and his government in Niger regarding the exploitation of oil.

In a press release published this Monday, June 17, 2024, the Patriotic Liberation Front (FPL) threatened to attack the pipeline infrastructure.

In Niger, this armed group demands that China cancel the advance of 400 million dollars, or more than 200 billion FCFA, promised to the authorities for the export of crude oil.

For several months, the FPL has intensified its actions against the Nigerien government. According to members of this group, the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland (CNSP) appropriates Nigerien crude oil for personal use.

Thus, the FPL positions itself as the defender of the Nigerien people, aiming to prevent the CNSP from benefiting from the oil windfall.

“On the night of June 16, 2024, the Patriotic Liberation Front-FPL sabotaged a significant section of the pipeline as a first warning to the Niamey junta”indicates the press release.

Indeed, the FPL reiterated its main demand: the cancellation of the $400 million advance promised to the CNSP, threatening to paralyze all oil installations if their request is not met.

Furthermore, the group advised users to avoid the N’guigmi-Koulele and Zinder-Jaouro sections for “their own safety”.

For the moment, the government of Abdourahamane Tiani has not yet reacted to this threat which hangs over the exploitation of oil in Niger.
