A 28-year-old man died in the night from Sunday to Monday, burned alive in a car parked in the Ousse-des-Bois district, located north of Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), report our colleagues from France Bleu and South West.
Around 3 a.m., residents called the firefighters to report the presence of a man in the passenger compartment of a car engulfed in flames. According to a witness cited by the local press, the vehicle had been parked for several minutes.
When firefighters arrived on scene, residents had removed the victim from the car. The man was screaming in pain, according to witnesses present on the scene, who doused him with water to try to put out the flames. He died shortly afterwards.
A murder investigation was opened and entrusted to the Pau judicial police branch in order to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy, the Pau prosecutor's office confirms to Le Parisien. “No avenue has been ruled out at this stage and numerous technical investigations remain to be carried out,” specifies Rodolphe Jarry, public prosecutor. An autopsy of the body will be carried out, and the car has been taken for examination.
