The ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, near the capital Washington, also constitutes Kamala Harris’ first public appearance since her defeat speech on Wednesday.

The Democratic Party is wondering about the reasons for its defeat – lost White House and Senate, expected failure in the House – and some are beginning to question the president and his initial choice to run again despite his advanced age of 81 years. .

Democratic tenor Pelosi told the New York Times that “if the president had left (the race) earlier, there might have been other candidates.”

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, however, praised the “craze” generated by Kamala Harris during her campaign, like a party which rarely criticizes the vice-president after her defeat.

On Monday, Joe Biden paid tribute to the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery. He will give way, on January 20, to his predecessor, Donald Trump.

The two men are scheduled to meet Wednesday at the White House.
