A discreet feature which could well cause serious turmoil within the couple. This new option, available for more than 15 days on WhatsApp, allows its user to protect certain exchanges by “locking” them. To be able to view discussions, authentication is required. De facto, a partner who has doubts and would like to read his messages cannot do so.
To access conversations, there are only three possibilities: knowing the secret code or having the required fingerprint or facial print. “To be able to read or send messages, you will need to unlock your conversations using device authentication, such as your phone's passcode, Face ID, your fingerprint, or a passcode” explains the WhatsApp help center. Even more secret, even notifications are invisiblewhich can therefore further reinforce suspicion within the couple.
On social networks and particularly TikTok, this new functionality has been widely commented on. Men and women in couples thus expressed their fear about how this feature could be used to hide conversations. Some even consider that this update could make infidelity easier.
To avoid any risk of tension within the couple because of this new function, there remains one option: communicate and in particular discuss the limits of confidentiality and to establish clear rules to prevent this option from becoming a subject of contention. Transparency can be virtuous if we explain the reason for blocking certain conversations in order to avoid making the atmosphere completely unbreathable.
