Etienne Willem has left us and it is a moment of great sadness, of sorrow. We had often met and interviewed Etienne, in particular at BD Plage Sète where his friend Sylvie Moretto regularly invited him. He was 51 years old. Etienne not only had great talent but also a real kindness, we loved meeting him and talking with him about his albums. We will miss him with his kilt and his humor, his smile.
He made a specialty of animal comics with The Sword of Ardenois Or The Monkey’s Wings and had also signed The Gunners, The Paris of wonders. Etienne Willem was Belgian. After a stint at the 352 animation studio in Luxembourg, he launched into comics in 2004 and quickly established himself. From 2004 to 2007 he produced, alone, Old Heather and Silk Stockings, by signing the script and drawing. This trilogy, published by Paquet, is a thriller set in England in the 1930s. It was then that he really became known with his medieval masterpiece, The Sword of Ardenois, a tetralogy published by Paquet, whose plot takes place in a fantastic medieval world populated by animal characters. Etienne leaves us a beautiful range of works, all mastered, rich and where action knows how to make way for humor. He also published a very beautiful artbook a few years ago.
