It’s been several days since part 2 of season 3 of The Bridgerton Chronicles is available on Netflix. The second round of episodes provides answers to many questions. It is notably a question of the dual identity of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), of her love story with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), but also of her complicated friendship with Eloïse (Claudia Jessie). Sophie Beckett occupies a central place in Julia Quinn’s novels. It is nothing more and nothing less than the woman that Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) will take as his wife. The third volume of the saga tells how the second child of Lord Edmund and Lady Violet falls under her spell during a masked ball, without knowing her true identity. Benedict later has her hired as a maid for his mother. Although she initially resists his advances, Sophie agrees to make love with him. During a game of bobwhite, her suitor understands that he is dealing with the stranger at the ball. The latter explains to him that a marriage is impossible since she is the illegitimate daughter of the Earl of Penwood. Benedict decides despite everything to ask for her hand. It is then that the police arrest Sophie, accused of theft by her mother-in-law. The Bridgerton family negotiates their release and the lovebirds can finally get married. Will Bridgerton season 4 really be about Benedict?
The Bridgerton Chronicles happily takes freedoms with the novels of Julia Quinn. If they wanted to be faithful to the original material, the writers should have dedicated season 3 to Benedict. Instead, the character was simply ousted from the plot. Early fans now assume that he will return to the forefront in future episodes currently being written.
If nothing has been confirmed yet, Luke Newton suggests that the rumor could well be true. During an interview with Mexican media Men’s Beautythe interpreter of Colin Bridgerton says he appreciates L’“free spirit and […] rebel” of the character of Benedict.
