As appreciated as it is by its users, particularly in terms of habitability, the Duster, Dacia’s great commercial success if ever there was one, nonetheless remains a “compact” SUV in view of its dimensions. Even if the term is likely to provoke reactions, this is how it is considered by its manufacturer and the entire sector. And for good reason, the market also includes SUVs with much larger dimensions, sometimes capable of accommodating seven passengers. It is this new segment, large SUVs, that Dacia wishes to tackle with a new model whose name is already known: the Bigster.

Very little information has filtered out at the moment regarding this future great. However, the time for commercialization is approaching. Prefigured by the concept unveiled in 2021, the Bigster would be in the final phase of its design. Dacia already has a few rolling prototypes in anticipation of formalization which could take place at the end of 2024. Marketing is still announced for 2025.

What will the Bigster look like?

As its name clearly indicates, the Bigster is primarily intended as a large version of the Duster. On this point the first leaked images do not say anything else as the resemblance seems great between the two SUVs of the brand. Unless there is an improbable change at this stage, Dacia should use the characteristic aesthetic elements of the new Duster for its future Duster and in particular this fairly angular overall look as well as the new visual identity called “Outdoor”.

In fact, like all Dacias, the future large SUV will use technical elements inherited from the Renault group, in this case an extended version of the CMF-B platform, the same one which was used in the development of the Arkana. Consequently, it is estimated that the Bigster should measure between 4.55 m and 4.60 m and have a large trunk volume (nearly 500 L).

As for the interior design, it should also include many elements of the Duster for obvious reasons of savings. On the other hand, the information remains quite vague on the possibility or not of a seven-seat layout. This device also has a cost and could be confined to the Jogger alone for a few more years.

A big Duster named Bigster

In terms of engines, however, there is much less suspense as the choices offered by the Renault group are quite limited regarding Dacia. In any case, the engines available on the future Bigster should be identical to those currently integrated into its little brother, the Duster. A 1.0 LPG ECO-G version should initiate a range which will most likely end with a 1.6 L hybrid version of 140 hp.

Finally, as is often the case with Dacia, it is the price that risks making the difference. Of course, that of the Bigster is not known, but given the technical proximity of the future large SUV with the current Duster, it is reasonable to think that its price should not soar. So the prices of the Bigster should oscillate between 20,000 and 30,000 euros depending on the various engines and finishing levels. For final prices and everything else… answer at the end of the year.
