The context

Live hosted by Le Nouvel Obs

  • The lightning campaign for the first round of the legislative elections on June 30 officially begins on Monday under high tension. Since 6 p.m. Sunday, all candidates for one of the 577 deputy seats have been registered at the prefecture.
  • Now time for field meetings, sending electoral propaganda and television spots.
  • In the wake of its victory in the European elections, the National Rally is entering this campaign at the top of the polls, given around 30% of the votes. At 28, Jordan Bardella is aiming for the post of Prime Minister despite his inexperience.
  • The RN had created a first earthquake in the campaign by allying itself with the president of the LR Eric Ciotti. If the latter was not followed by the tenors of LR, he indicated Sunday evening that he had 62 candidates “of the gathering of the rights” supported by the RN.
  • Eric Zemmour, despite his hostility to the RN, announced that Reconquête will not present a candidate in almost half of the constituencies to favor “the architects of national unity” like Eric Ciotti and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan.
  • In second position, with 25% of voting intentions, the left achieved the feat of overcoming in a few days months of divisions under the banner “New Popular Front”. But, barely formed, this fragile and very heterogeneous alliance weathered its first storm with the refusal of LFI to invest several historical figures critical of the line of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, such as Alexis Corbière, who nevertheless decided to maintain their candidacies .
  • The economic program of the New Popular Front (SMIC at 1,600 euros net, abandonment of pension reform, indexation of salaries to inflation, etc.) is attacked by the majority who qualify it, like Bruno Le Maire, as “disaster”.
  • Gabriel Attal, who leads the campaign, however, also announced purchasing power measures such as an increase in “Macron bonus” or lower electricity bills.
