General Jean Baptiste Tine,
Minister of the Interior and Public Security posted a post on his Facebook page, to present his condolences following the death of Colonel Mbaye Guèye, former Director of the GMI of Senegal.

“It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Colonel Mbaye Gueye, former Director of the Mobile Intervention Group (GMI) of Senegal. A man of great value and dedication, he knew, through his courage and his sense of duty, to play a crucial role during the 1987 crisis following the delisting law, by easing tensions between police officers wanting to go to the palace of justice and gendarmes,” wrote General Jean Baptiste Tine.

“His decisive intervention during these difficult times will remain forever engraved in our collective memory. Colonel Mbaye Gueye served our nation with honor and dignity, and his legacy of peace and justice will endure, testifies the Minister of the Interior.

“We send our most sincere condolences to his family, to the entire Directorate General of the National Police, as well as to all those who had the privilege of knowing him and working alongside him. May his soul rest in peace,” continues General Tine.
