Positive weekend for Mattias Skjelmosewho has just concluded a great comeback on the 8th and final stage of the Tour of Switzerland. The Dane was still 6th on Thursday, before keeping the wheels of the best and grabbing two positions in Blatten the next day. Sunday, on a 15.7 kilometer hill climb, the resident of the Lidl-Trek finished once again behind the duo Joao Almeida-Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates), and above all climbed onto the overall podium, at the expense ofEgan Bernal (INEOS Grenadiers), 9th in this solo effort, 1’30” behind the winner of the day. Mattias Skjelmose also leaves with the white jersey of best young person on his shoulders.

“I am very satisfied, welcomes the Danish champion after the race. The goals for today (Sunday) were to win the stage and get a place on the podium. But being on the podium was just a little more important. Getting this place on the podium is very special. It took a special performance to do it and I think I did it. I showed this week that I can come back well. One bad day doesn’t mean you’re a bad runner. It is important to be mentally strong and have the right mindset. I have some good people around me and they continued to believe in me, that helped me.”
