More than 225 people, including at least a hundred civilians, attended the Remembrance Day commemoration ceremony this morning, which took place at the cenotaph at Parc Mathieu in Beauceville.
Several dignitaries laid wreaths at the foot of the monument which contains the 254 names of soldiers from the Régiment de la Chaudière, who disappeared during the Second World War. Nine of these names were added this year.
Among the personalities present, we found the commander of the Régiment de la Chaudière, Lieutenant-Colonel Bruno Gilbert, the president of the cenotaph committee (who acted as master of ceremonies), Major Jean-François Maheux, the federal deputy for Beauce, Richard Lehoux, the deputy for Beauce-Nord, Luc Provençal, the prefect of the MRC Beauce-Centre and mayor of Saint-Victor, Jonathan V. Bolduc, as well as the mayors of Beauceville and Saint-Georges, respectively François Veilleux and Claude Morin.
Some 80 cadets, from the Corps of Beauceville, Lac-Etchemin and Saint-Georges, as well as around thirty members of the Régiment de la Chaudière, participated in the solemn celebration, in front of around twenty veterans from the region.
Note that tomorrow, November 11, the same day of remembrance, a gathering is planned at the military monument at the Place des Vétérans in Saint-Georges. The latter is located near the Mgr-Beaudoin Adult Education Center. The ceremony will begin at around 11 a.m.
