Around 5:30 a.m., firefighters were called to intervene first at Pizzeria Espoir, where the fire was quickly brought under control. No one was inside the building at the time of the incident, and the damage remains superficial.
When leaving the premises, around 6:45 a.m., the Fire Department noticed smoke coming from a building a little further away, at the rear of the SAQ premises. They therefore intervened again to control the flames. Once again, no one was injured during the events.
In both cases, the investigation was entrusted to the Saguenay Police Service (SPS), since the causes of the fires were not clearly accidental.
No retaliation
The SPS spokesperson, Dominic Gagnon, however, wishes to reassure the population about the origin of the events.
“This is not linked to yesterday's arrests, and these are not retaliation for yesterday's events and the seizure of firearms,” assures Dominic Gagnon.
Remember that five individuals were apprehended on Thursday afternoon, not far from the La Bonne Patate restaurant. Two vehicles were seized and weapons were confiscated.
