On the night of November 9 to 10, 2024, at 1:30 a.m., a fire broke out at 11 rue de Bellevue, in the Haie des Cognets industrial zone in Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande. The site concerned, belonging to the company Triadis, a subsidiary of the Séché Environnement group, is classified Seveso due to its sensitivity. The flames hit a waste storage pit measuring 3 meters high, 10 meters wide and 8 meters deep. Around 10 tonnes of materials were burned in this space, requiring rapid mobilization of firefighters to prevent any spread. The police forces have set up a security perimeter around the company, to allow rescue teams to intervene in secure conditions. The origin of the fire remains undetermined, although initial observations suggest a possible chemical incompatibility which caused a smoldering fire.
