Actors George Clooney and Julia Roberts as well as former President Barack Obama, of whom Joe Biden was vice-president during his two terms (2009-2017), will attend this event which has already raised $28 million, according to his campaign team, a record for the Democratic Party.

By returning to American territory, Joe Biden closes a long international sequence marked by the ceremonies of the 80e anniversary of the Landings in France last week, then the G7 in Italy which ended Friday evening.

It is therefore his vice-president Kamala Harris who represents the United States at a summit on peace in Ukraine starting Saturday in Switzerland, without the participation of Russia.

This gala in California, presented by the Biden campaign as “a show of force” and a demonstration of “enthusiastic” support from the entertainment industry, also comes four days after a personal ordeal for Joe Biden, 81, including the son, Hunter, was convicted of illegal possession of a firearm.

Star comedian Jimmy Kimmel will host a conversation between Joe Biden and Barack Obama.

The atmosphere of this reunion promises to be much friendlier than that which awaits the outgoing president during his first televised duel on June 27 against his predecessor and Republican candidate in the November election, Donald Trump.

The democrat should hammer home his message of defending women’s rights and democracy in the face of his opponent’s conception of power.

But he must also prepare to respond to attacks on his record age for an American president from Donald Trump, himself 78 years old since Friday, who feasts on images of the stiff gait and moments of misguidedness of Joe Biden.

The Republican candidate is going to a black church in Detroit (north) on Saturday to try to exploit the recent erosion of voting intentions in favor of Democrats within this minority.

Joe Biden and Donald Trump appear neck and neck in the polls and the latter has made up a good part of his delay in terms of fundraising by riding the indignation of his supporters after his criminal conviction in New York on May 30.
