While awaiting its arrival on the F1 grid in 2026, Audi has just made a decision which should cause a lot of talk.
This is sure to be an attraction of the 2026 F1 season. In a year, Audi will take its first steps in the paddock with the desire to make a big impact.
Qatar wants to strike a big blow in F1
In the meantime, the German brand is structuring itself and a first major decision has just been taken: the partial sale of the team. The process is expected to last a year and will be finalized before the team's first GP.
According to information from Motorsport nextGen, an investment from Qatar's sovereign wealth fund is being studied. An announcement could come in three weeks during the Qatar GP, the penultimate round on the F1 calendar. This would be major news in the F1 ecosystem. With much greater financial resources, Audi could quickly find itself in the lead, and challenge the supremacy of Red Bull already called into question this season by McLaren.
In addition, the German brand's automotive experience is normally a guarantee of success. The only uncertainty lies in the Audi engine. A first response will be given during private pre-season testing for the 2025/2026 financial year. Patience.
A gradual entry into motorsport
For several years, the State of Qatar has invested massively in F1. First there is the local GP which has its place in the F1 calendar each season, but that's not all. Qatar Always is also a major sponsor of the premier automotive category. In addition, Qatar has tried several times to buy the commercial rights to F1, without success. Liberty Media has reiterated its desire to continue its motorsport business overhaul since the takeover.
