RC Lens wins against Nantes after a crazy end to the match

This Saturday, a clash between two emblematic Ligue 1 clubs took place at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis. In the race for European places, RC hosted FC who are just coming off a frustrating defeat against OM last week (1-2). An important meeting for Will Still’s men who have lost their last two matches in the top flight. From the start, the tone was set by the Canaries. Enterprising, the latter almost opened the scoring, but Mostafa Mohamed hit the post (3rd). However, this promising start to the match for Nantes was hampered by a short interruption of the match following the throwing of tennis balls and vindictive banners against the LFP.

And when the match resumed, RC Lens took the upper hand in the game and proved dangerous around the Nantes area. Finally, the score was decided by a penalty obtained by the Artésiens. Thus, Frankowski gave the Lensois the advantage in this meeting (1-0, 21st). Despite this hard blow, Nantes did not stop putting forward its ideas of play. More incisive than their opponents, the Canaries therefore logically got back on track thanks to a penalty obtained by Nicolas Cozza and transformed by Moses Simon (1- 1, 35e). After this story of penalties, the two teams returned to the locker room with a parity score, but Nantes showed slightly more than Lens during a turbulent first act.

A stunning RC Lens at the end of the match

Returning from the locker room, FC Nantes continued to apply pressure which disrupted the artesian restarts. In this sense, Antoine Kombouaré’s men created the best chances of the match and came dangerously close to Brice Samba’s goals. And after such mastery, FC Nantes wasted no time in taking the advantage. With a delicious service from Simon behind, Nicolas Cozza sent the ball into the back of the net to give the Canaries a well-deserved advantage. Finally, when we thought that the Lensois were heading towards a frustrating defeat, their third in a row, the Lensois reaction came from one of Will Still’s super-subs.

After a big opportunity from Florian Sotoca (82nd), Hamzat Ojediran scored the equalizer while being well placed back in the area (2-2, 86th). Not satisfied, the Sang et Or continued to push and their burst of pride allowed them to seek victory. Indeed, author of a courageous intervention a few minutes earlier (87th), Nicolas Pallois did not understand Alban Lafont and lobbed his goalkeeper. An error which allowed Adrien Thomasson, a surface fox, to finish in the empty goal (3-2, 89th). With this mentally brilliant victory, RC Lens puts itself back in the race for Europe and is now in fifth place. For its part, FC Nantes may have bitter regrets. Seeming to be on the right track in the game, the Nantes club had to concede another frustrating defeat which does not do their business in the standings: the Canaries are 14th.
