LFI deputy François Ruffin told Courrier Picard on Friday that Jean-Luc Mélenchon “is right to step back” for the legislative campaign because, “during the first door-to-door canvassing, his name comes up, and with concern “.

The rebellious deputy François Ruffin estimated that the leader of his party, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, is “right to withdraw” during the legislative campaign, “his name” arousing the “concern” of voters, in an interview published this Friday June 14 in Courrier Picard.

“Quite frankly, during the first door-to-door visits, his name came up, and with concern. And that’s why I think he’s right to step back,” he told the daily.

“It seems obvious that he will not be Prime Minister,” added Ruffin, candidate for the legislative elections within the New Popular Front, the union of left-wing parties.

A “peaceful” Mélenchon since Monday

The outgoing MP nevertheless appreciated the attitude of Jean-Luc Mélenchon this week. The leader of La France insoumise said Wednesday evening that he felt “capable” of being Prime Minister of a left-wing government in the event of victory of the new “Popular Front” in the early legislative elections, but called for “waiting” for the result elections.

Then, while the Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, said he was in favor of a debate with Jordan Bardella (RN) and Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the latter stressed that “the New Popular Front has not yet designated its Prime Minister candidate” . “It is therefore up to the leaders of the major parties in our coalition to go to this type of debate,” he declared.

“I say that I really like this week’s Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who is much more peaceful and favorable to the union. Since Monday, I have given him a good point, that’s good,” said François Ruffin this Friday.
