PRO D2 2024-2025 – Crazy evening in Pro D2, with 48 tries scored in seven matches. The highlight of the evening is for Béziers against Dax (50-17). But the big blow is for Grenoble, who won on the Oyonnax pitch (38-23). They are in the lead with Provence Rugby, winner with the bonus of Aurillac (39-20) and Montauban, miraculous against Nice (34-30). Soyaux-Angoulême dominates Agen (30-29), while Nevers leaves the red zone, dominating Valence-Romans with difficulty (27-17). The shock of the evening turned in favor of Brive, who crushed Colomiers in the second act (49-15).
The shock of the day: Brive overthrows Colomiers
Brive strikes a nice blow! With an improved victory, against Colomiers (49-15). And yet, nothing seemed to predict such widespread success. There was even consternation at half-time, at the Amédée Domenech stadium, where the Brivists were jeered by their public. At the end of a catastrophic first act, which saw Colomiers lead by nine points at the break (6-15). Two tries to nothing for the club from the suburbs of Toulouse, which had an absolutely perfect half-time. A first achievement very early in the game, by a Mathis Galthiéwhose father, even if very busy at the moment, will not fail to congratulate (0-10, 9th). And a second try, by Pablo Patillaafter half an hour of play, to break away and provoke the first big whistles from the public (3-15, 33rd). Brive, much too clumsy, will not have achieved much in this first act.
Six tries for Brive in the second act
But consternation will give way to great happiness, when the clumsiness of Brive transforms into a fury, which will carry away Colomiers. Who concedes a 22-0 in 18 minutes. Mathis Ferté, shifted to its right wing, rings the revolt. It all started with a well-taken kick-off by the Brivists. And the U20 world champion, coveted by several Top 14 clubs, further justifies the speculation around him (11-15, 44th). At the end of a magnificent sequence, which put the Columeran defense on the back foot, Daniel Sadrugu scored his team's second try. Who take the lead for the first time (21-15, 56th). A second then a third try, when his winger Erwan Dridi, pierces the curtain of Colomiers, to offer even more happiness to its supporters, relieved at the start of the second act (28-15, 58th).
Nothing will stop the Brivists on the path to the offensive bonus. Asaeli Tuivuaka scored his team's fourth try in force, on his right wing (35-15, 65th). And like a symbol, the one who sounded the revolt, is the one who marks the offensive bonus. On a key played quickly, Mathis Ferté plays everyone, for the double (42-15, 73rd). A bonus secured in the process by a new major movement. And Erwan Dridi who in turn scores the double (49-15, 76th). The festival ends with this sixth attempt by the Brivistes, the 48th of this crazy evening of Pro D2 (read below).
Today’s winner: Béziers is a hit
In two matches, Béziers has been full of confidence. A victory full of character against Soyaux-Angoulême. And the success of the evening against Dax (50-17). Certainly two home matches, but newfound confidence for the Biterrois, who made seven attempts at the Dacquois. Including a hat-trick from behind Gabin Lorre (35th, 57th, 70th) who made a huge start to the season. But also a double for Clement Doumenc (27th, 41st). The Dacquois were never up to speed, already carried away in the first act (24-3 at half-time). Little by little we find the Béziers from last season, attractive. And who seem to have put aside non-sporting concerns (which cannot be neglected, however, as the accusations are so serious).
Béziers has therefore taken nine points in two games and is back in force at the top of the table, with 27 points. In a Pro D2 championship tighter than ever in the leading pack (read elsewhere). This will obviously require external confirmation. But what is taken is no longer to be taken. For Dax, it is a logical defeat, but with limited consequences despite the magnitude of the score. The Landais remain 11th in this Pro D2, with 21 points and a small margin ahead of the red zone.
The loser of the day: Oyonnax sinks
Grenoble could have deserved the title of winner of the day, as winning at Oyonnax is complicated in Pro D2. But this heavy defeat of the Aindinois sounds like an event. A spanking inflicted by Grenoblois (38-23) who continue their excellent start to the season. From the outset, they showed that they were on pace, lacking only that touch of precision. Before rolling out, with an imperial Marc Palmier at the boot. Author of a 7/7 kick and 19 of his team's 35 points. A team that crossed the Oyomens try line twice. Julien Farnouxshortly after half an hour of play (33rd) and the inevitable Barnabé Couilloud, very impressive since the start of the season (55th). While Teddy Durand scored a try, for the locals (59th). Before Benjamin Geledan do not save honor (76th).
Grenoble maintains a very solid pace, with 31 points in 10 matches. While Oyonnax, with this first defeat at home, only plunges further! With an 11th place at the end of the day. And the roadblock operator who is only a small point behind. The relegated from Top 14 is having a more than complicated first third of the championship. And will have to start bailing. The week's break should do them some good. But will give them time to think for a long time, before a perilous trip to Valence-Romans, in immense form lately. Grenoble is tied for 3rd with Montauban and Provence.
Other results
Provence Rugby continues to collect offensive bonuses. After the one against Mont-de-Marsan, a second this Friday evening with a victory against Aurillac (39-20). The Provençaux are second, tied on points with Grenoble. And continue to do the job from home. With 27 points out of 30 possible since the start of the season. Note that the six Provençal tries were scored by six different players. In a match undecided until the end, Soyaux-Angoulême wins by one point on his lawn against Agen (30-29). A spectacular nine-try match. Angoulême had the offensive bonus for a while, before cracking at the end of the match and seeing the Agenais leave Chanzy with a point. Angoulême continues its good start to the season and is 7th with 26 points. While Agen is 9th, with 21 points.
We almost witnessed an authentic feat this evening. Nice led to the leader's lawn Montauban, until the final seconds. Before breaking down and bowing 34-30. Montauban escapes and keeps the lead, but must now share it (read above). Nice is a barrage with 16 points. But with this kind of performance, the promoted player shows his value in this hyper-competitive championship. The message will be received. Valence-Romans long believed to sink Nevers and achieve a third success in a row, the second on the road. But the money time saw Nivernais, virtually last at one point in the game, overthrow their opponent (27-17). Valence-Romans falls back to last place, with 15 points, while Nevers leaves the red zone, with 18 points and a 13th place.
