It is an activity that requires organization. For seven months now, Marie Valente has combined private life, professional life and the creation of plant-based candles and wooden jewelry in her small workshop in Chapelle-d’Huin. At the age of 35, this mother, a full-time ambulance driver, embarked on the adventure of craftsmanship. “I’ve been making my Christmas or birthday gifts like this for several years,” says the designer. It is by offering her creations to those close to her every year that she realizes that it is possible to go further.

Focus on quality

In her small workshop and with the help of her partner Vincent Baudin, Marie Valente creates vegetable candles made from soy wax. “The scent of the candles comes from Grasse”, specifies the artist who wishes to emphasize the quality of his products: “This is generally what customers are looking for, they are reassured when they know the raw materials of this that they buy. » Unique and personalized creations just like her jewelry, made from epoxy resin and noble wood. “I am of Portuguese origin, I love olive wood. There is also ebony wood that I really like,” she confides.

A good start

“We just had to take this small step,” says Marie Valente when she talks about the creation of her workshop, “It’s hard to get started and with work, I was afraid that I wouldn’t have enough time. » Despite the apprehensions and with the support of her partner, the designer was able to combine work, family life and a project, so much so that she hopes to one day make a living from her new activity. “There, I know that for the moment it is not possible, but I hope to be able to get there one day,” she confides. In the meantime, the designer sells her products on her website and at the Cabane des artisans de Pontarlier. She also responds to personalized orders, whether for individual requests or for birthdays, baptisms and weddings.
