Newhook stands out in another CH defeat

Criticized since the start of the season, forward Alex Newhook scored two goals in another defeat for the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 5 to 3 against the Devils in New Jersey on Thursday evening.

The Habs number 15 first reduced the score to 2 to 1 at the start of the second period. But his best play took place during the last engagement. Gaining speed behind Samuel Montembeault’s goal, Newhook covered the entire ice before beating Jacob Markstrom in the upper part.

As has been the custom for some time, the match got off to a bad start for Martin St-Louis’ men. Indeed, the Devils opened the scoring in the first moments of the match thanks to Jesper Bratt. The latter took advantage of a superb staging by Jack Hughes to make the red light sparkle.

Moreover, the young attacker from the Newark team had a more than successful match, collecting a goal and two assists.

Ondrej Palat and Jonas Siegenthaler scored the Devils’ other goals. For the Canadian, Brendan Gallagher, with his sixth goal of the season, provided CH’s other response.

In the cages, Montembeault stood out on several occasions for his team, particularly at the end of the third period. He finished his evening of work with 22 saves on 26 shots.

This setback is a fifth in a row, and a ninth in the last 11 outings for the Canadian.

Nick Suzuki’s teammates will take over again Saturday night against the Maple Leafs in Toronto. This meeting will also be broadcast on TVA Sports and TVA.

10:19 | After a great presence for the Habs in the offensive zone, Jonas Siegenthaler allows the Devils to lead 3 to 1.
