At the end of 2023, NVIDIA increased the price of its GeForce NOW cloud gaming offerings. Well, the “Free” package remained free otherwise there would be a little problem with definition, however the “Priority” subscription went from €9.99 to €10.99 per month, while the “Ultimate” saw its price increase from €19.99 to €21.99 monthly. On March 5, 2024, NVIDIA then found a way to make its “Free” plan profitable, with advertisements…
NVIDIA has just announced new changes to these offerings. It is improving on certain points, in particular for the “Priority” offer, which takes the opportunity to change its name and become the “Performance” subscription. On the other hand, NVIDIA is making a strong choice, which according to the firm can be explained by the desire not to have to increase its prices again. You will now have to deal with a monthly limit of 100 hours of total use, or around 3 hours 20 minutes per day on average.
As we said, the “Priority” subscription therefore becomes “Performance”. A new name undoubtedly there to mark the arrival of 1440p at 60 fps, whereas before we had to be satisfied with 1080p. For a price remaining at €10.99 per month or €54.99 for 6 months, it is rather interesting. The “Ultimate” package does not change its name and still allows you to go up to UHD (4K) at 120 fps, or FHD (1080p) at 240 fps, of your choice, with unchanged prices of €21.99 per month or €109.00 for 6 months.
But the new thing that will make people cringe is the limitation now to 100 hours of total use of the service over a month which will appear on the “Performance” and “Ultime” subscriptions from January 1, 2025. NVIDIA uses classic strategies to swallow the pill, the first being the carrot: if you subscribe before the end of 2024, you will not have to suffer this limitation throughout the year 2025 and will only be affected in 2026. A technique often used by various services during a price increase for example, this time diverted to the appearance of a quota. Another idea from NVIDIA: implement a carryover from one month to the next. If you do not use all of your 100 hours, you may have up to 15 hours unused which roll over to your quota for the following month. Enough to potentially start the following month with 115 hours and feel like the king of oil, or almost. Finally, to remove the specter of being completely blocked and completely unable to use the service to get your dose of fun drugs, NVIDIA has also planned this and is probably already rubbing its hands: you will be able to recharge your account if you no longer have time available. The prices in France for these recharges have not yet been precisely announced, but NVIDIA has indicated that in the United States it will be $2.99 per 3 p.m. recharge for the “Performance” package and 5.99 $ per 3 p.m. recharge for the “Ultimate” subscription.
There you go, now it’s time to digest the information! For NVIDIA, this would be a choice “in the interest of the greatest number” because it will ultimately allow 94% of users not to have the slightest negative effect. According to internal data from GeForce NOW services, 94% of users use their package for less than 100 hours per month and therefore they will be able to benefit from the same quality of service, even improved, particularly in the case of switching to the “Priority” package. to “Performance”, without paying more. For the remaining 6% of players, however, you will have to think about either reducing the pace, or getting used to the idea of skipping the “recharge” box and therefore paying more, or even significantly more per month for the most addicted.
