Fanned by a westerly wind, and gusts between 70 and 90 km/h, the flames continued to advance this Tuesday evening in rugged terrain towards the east of the Maures massif.

Firefighters are expecting a complicated night.

In all, several dozen houses have already been evacuated. As a preventive measure, the hamlets “Les Claudins”, “Les Pruniers” and “Les Barrets” and “Les Pierrons” in the commune of Plan-de-la Tour are being evacuated. The “Fenouil” and “La Jale” estates in the commune of Vidauban were also evacuated. The families of the hamlet “Les Bas Oliviers” in La Garde-Freinet were confined.

500 firefighters mobilized

Firefighters are hard at work to combat this disaster, supported by 3 civil security water bomber planes (Canadairs) and a heavy civil security helicopter. These are currently more than 250 Var firefighters and more than 50 machines which are mobilized for this operation.

Reinforcements are expected and are being transported from SDIS 13, SDIS 06, SDIS 84, marine firefighters from Marseille and UIISC7 from Brignoles, i.e. around 300 firefighters as reinforcements. A site-level command post is activated.

Roads cut

Departmental roads 48 and 72 are cut off to traffic between the municipalities of Vidauban and Plan de la Tour.
