In October, the B2B plane ticket sales platform MisterFly observed a price increase of 8.7% on medium-haul flights over one year. The most notable increases concern Morocco (+12%), Spain (+10%), Portugal (+11%), Greece (+12%).
An overall price increase of 3%
On domestic flights, inflation, more moderate, still reached 4%. And across all long-haul destinations, prices remain stable “with contrasting situations depending on the destinations”, notes Frédéric Pilloud, digital director of MisterFly. In fact, airfares are increasing by 9% in both the United States and Canada.
On the other hand, they are decreasing for several countries, particularly in Asia: Japan (-5%), Thailand (-8%) and even more Vietnam (-13%). These are the three best-selling destinations on the continent on the site, among French people.
All destinations combined, the prices of plane tickets increase by 3% in October 2024, compared to October 2023. This is significantly more than inflation (+1.2% according to INSEE).
Asia and Egypt are on the rise
In terms of destination, Japan moved up six places. This is the expression of “Asian travel revenge” but also the consequences of the weak yen, according to Frédéric Pilloud. India and Vietnam are also moving up (+5 places and +3 places respectively). Egypt also (+5 places) despite a tense geopolitical context in the Middle East.
On the other hand, other destinations are losing ground. In 22nd position in the ranking, Martinique is suffering from the movement against the high cost of living (-5 places). And Canada, air prices too high (-3).
In total, the air ticketing specialist MisterFly of the Digitrips group analyzed 98,618 tickets reserved in economy class in May 2024.
