According to Johan Geeroms, Director Risk Underwriting Benelux at Allianz Trade, construction is one of the three sectors most affected by the large number of bankruptcies. “These are often companies with very high capital that experience delays. Because payments are slow to arrive. Or because the completion of projects is constantly delayed due to the absence of permits, opposition from local residents or appeals.”
Most construction companies facing almost empty order books: Embuild warns about the future of the sector
The Allianz Trade report also explicitly warns large construction groups of their vulnerability. During the first half of the year, thirty companies with a turnover of more than 50 million euros went bankrupt, particularly in Europe and Asia.
Although Allianz Trade analysts predict a cautious rebound in the construction sector in 2025, the situation remains fragile and precarious. Among other things, due to tightening public budgets, difficulties in finding qualified personnel, the aging of the population and increasingly extreme weather conditions.
