For most of the past several years, you could bank on Roma advancing pretty far into European competition. Granted, it wasn’t the European competition we’d hoped for, but with deep runs in the Europa League under Paulo Fonseca, José Mourinho (who also won the inaugural Europa Conference League in 2022) and even Daniele De Rossi, the Giallorossi had nearly mastered Europe’s JV tournament. In this, the first year of the newly revamped Europa League where Roma felt like one of the presumptive favorites, the capital club has fallen flat on its face, collecting four points from their first three matches.
Unlike the past few seasons, when the club faltered in one competition but thrived in the other, Ivan Juric’s side is struggling to make ends meet in Europe and Serie A. They’ve sunk to 12th place after last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Hellas Verona. Needless to say, things aren’t great in the Italian capital at the moment, putting enormous pressure on Juric and the Giallorossi to turn things around.
A win today won’t necessarily prevent the vultures from circling, but it would be a start. The lineups are in, so let’s see if Juric can cobble together a win. Hell, even a semi-coherent performance would be a welcomed development.
The lineups are in, so let’s get this show on the road!
